Mongoose Bat To Cricket: Boon or Bane

There are shouts that cricket the way played now is killing the game. Many opposed T20 as a fast food. Now another controversy is heating up.

The mongoose bat

So what this is bat actually is? Mongoose is an animal known for its ferocity and hence the bat named as.

This bat apart from traditional bat has longer handle, smaller blade but larger sweet spot. HJayden demonstrated how easily a player could do power playing on endorsement conference.

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) – the game’s lawmakers had declared the bat legal and permitted its use in India and worldwide.

The handle of the Mongoose bat is 43 per cent longer and the blade 33 per cent shorter than the conventional bat.

As there is no splice, the sweet spot is increased by 120 per cent, the bat believed to have good balance besides tremendous bat speed

Mongoose bat is said to be ideal for faster run scoring as that is the same requirement of Twenty20

The small size of the bat would not be a problem in playing short-pitched balls or bouncers.

The Mongoose is tailor-made for the short format. Subtlety is not its strong suit. With a five-centimeter thick base that boasts a sweet spot twice the size of that on a traditional bat, even the pace bowler’s saving grace – a yorker – can be dispatched to the ropes.

“Without changing your technique, the bat allows you to hit the ball harder and further. Its power is phenomenal. It’s a weapon of mass destruction,” Law, contractor of the bat said.

The bat is introduced in India with starting price of Rs. 11,000.

The ICC has no problems with that prospect because it complies with MCC law, although, looking at its design, some wonder how that could be.

While there are fears that this might be another boon for batsman, bowlers seem to be confident. As this was the same issue raised when T20 was introduced. Everyone feared spin bowlers wont get a chance to perform and altogether it was proven wrong.

My concern is the protection on bouncers.

As the batsmen nearly all their life worked out with traditional bat, try to defend with the bat in the same way. But here the handle goes longer and there is a chance the ball hit the helmet or get scattered and alas! catch…
